The new president of the World Bank is a doctor

Candidates who receive U.S. backing Jim Yong Kim was elected the new president of the World Bank.

Korean-American health experts is the president of Dartmouth College in the state of New Hampshire, USA.

He faces tough competition in getting the position, which traditionally have always fallen into the hands of American citizens, Nigerian Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Jim Yong Kim, is a doctor who gets a lot of praise for its role in treating HIV / AIDS and reduce the impact of TB in the developing world.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said the new president background would be useful in his new role.

"The background to its development and dedication to form a consensus will give new breath to the World Bank's efforts to maintain the rapid growth of the world economy today," Geithner said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the previous president Robert Zoellick added: "Jim has witnessed poverty and vulnerability directly through a very impressive work in developing countries.

"His passion to produce something extraordinary science-based and will be invaluable for the World Bank Group as it can advance efforts to serve client countries overcome poverty.

Andrew Mitchell, the UK international development minister and the governor of the World Bank Group said that "as the first to lead the professional development of the World Bank, Jim Yong Kim's extensive experience will be crucial as he led the World Bank through an ambitious reform and modernization program."
